چکیده

The anaerobic treatability of malt whisky distillery wastewater was investigated. Biochemical methane potential (BMP) experiments were conducted both with and without basal medium (BM) to observe the effect of nutrient supplementation. For batch reactors containing no nutrients but only NaHCO3, net total gas production at the end of 29 days were observed as 0.019 m 3 gas/kg COD removed. With nutrient supplemented reactors the net total gas production was 0.020 m gas/kg COD. Continuous reactor experiments were carried out in two stage upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors. These experiments indicated that the two stage UASB reactor configuration is an efficient system for malt whisky wastewater treatment until up to 33 866 mg/l influent COD concentration. Following the UASB experiments aerobic experiments in batch reactors were also conducted and further COD and BOD removal of up to 55 and 70%, respectively, were achieved. # 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Poultry Slaughterhouse Wastewater Treatment Using Anaerobic Fluid Bed Reactor and Aerobic Mobile-Bed Biological Reactor

This research evaluated the efficiency of combined anaerobic-aerobic processes for the treatment of slaughterhouse wastewater. The anaerobic reactor consists of a 3.95 L Plexiglas column with 60 mm diameter and 140 cm height. The cylindrical particles of polyvinyl chloride with 2 mm diameter and 1250 kg m-3 density packed to 60 cm of column were used as biomass saving material. The d...

Biological Treatment of a Synthetic Dye Water and an Industrial Textile Wastewater Containing Azo Dye Compounds

In this research, the ability of anaerobic and aerobic biological sludges to reduce and stabilize azo dye compounds was studied. Synthetic dye solutions and an industrial textile wastewater were both treated using anaerobic and aerobic biomass, separately and in sequential step-treatment processes. The primary objective was to reduce the wastewater color to an intensity that complies with the V...

Anaerobic Biotechnology for Pharmaceutical Wastewater Treatment

The wastewater generated from the pharmaceutical industry contain high organic load and the treatment are primarily carried out using two major types of biological methods; aerobic and anaerobic. However, due to high strength, it is infeasible to treat some pharmaceutical wastewater using aerobic biological processes. As an alternative, an anaerobic process is preferred to remove high strength ...
